Been here in the OBX for a week. Got another week of vacation left. Last week was windy as hell with only some croakers and a couple of trout caught. This week the wind is good, out of the northeast, and we're catching flounder and one weird looking critter that was about 3 feet long & I've yet to identify it. I don't know jack about saltwater fishing, but it's been fun figuring it out the last few days. I have definitely got the skates / rays figured out. Apparently it doesn't matter how, when, or where I fish, the damned things are gonna bite.

Re: Outer Banks
Me and some friends are heading to south core banks in october for 9 days, went last year and had a ball, seen a 48, 42 and 36 inch red drum caught. I'm hooked now and look forward to going every year. You never know what you will reel in over there, plus it is so relaxing.

Re: Outer Banks
We went out last week on the head boat and man was the wind killer. Went about 5 miles out and had 5ft to 8ft swells and only managed to catch 4 black bass. It was tough and I was happy as hell to be back on land.

Core banks
Hey David saw your post about going to core banks in oct. when are you going in october? I guess ill see everybody at high rock on the 30th if I don't melt working outside between now and then! I may be wrong but i saw some bubbles coming up from the bottom at Harris the other day and i think the water was starting to boil! The fishing has been pretty hot there lately though with some nice topwater action.
